Scripture: 2 Corinthians 5:1-10
Message: “Heaven – An Eternal Home”

Sermon Outline

Is this life all that there is?

“For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” – 2 Corinthians 4:17-18

God Gives a Longing for our Heavenly Home (5:1-5)

The Corinthian focus on this life

Contrasts (5:1):

Earthly            – heavenly

tent                  – house/building

human hands   – God

temporary         – eternal

Don’t be found naked at the judgment!

The Spirit deposit – Longing for Home

“For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.” – 1 Corinthians 13:12

The Consequence of our Heavenly Confidence (5:6-10)

“Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord.” – 2 Corinthians 5:6

We Live by Faith not by Sight

“We make it our goal to please him,

whether we are at home in the body or away from it” (5:9)

The BEMA – Judgment Seat of Christ (also, Acts 18:12-17)

“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.”

 – 2 Corinthians 5:10

We please the Lord by walking in faith in the confidence of heaven.
